The monumental Amtrak 30th Street station (Tel: (215) 349 2152 or (1 800) 872 7245 (toll free; USA and Canada only), web site: www.amtrak.com) is across the Schuylkill River in the University district. From here it is five minutes into the city centre by taxi or public transport.

Facilities include rail information counter, public toilets and snack bars.

Rail services:
Philadelphia is a major hub on the northeast corridor between Boston (Massachusetts) and Washington, DC. It is served by regularly scheduled local trains and Metroliners from New York City (1 hour 10 minutes), Baltimore (1 hour), Washington DC (1 hour 40 minutes) and Boston (5 hours). ACELA, Amtrak's new high-speed train, was introduced in 2000 with service to Boston, New York and Washington DC. There are also trains from New Orleans (Louisiana), Miami (Florida) and Chicago (Illinois).
